REVIEW

HEAVY

Going to the beach and ending your day at a live concert, pair like a fine wine. The only other item this gathering needed was a charcuterie board because STRFKR surely brought the jam.

STRFKR have maintained their presence in the indie and alternative rock scene for a decent while now. Standing by their psychedelic sound, which has yet to fail them. Each album they create is a transcendence of their last. Shaping, morphing, and also staying true to themselves. There are always more than a few tracks on their records that pass the vibe check. That is a hard quest to achieve in this day and age. Where most musicians barely have a couple good songs on a new release.

Space suits and intergalactic costume designs are always present on stage at a STRFKR show. It works for them and the crowd loves it. They have been doing a similar stage presence for more years than I have fingers. Each tour run being a slight modification of their aesthetic. It helps engage their audience, diverting away from the band's reserved demeanor. This does not take away from the fact that the band members are masters of their instruments. Looking left to right, all band mates are creating art on multiple devices. Even the drummer, who has the presence of a human metronome, ties their exquisite sound together.

Jannus Live is always a breezy time. An outdoor venue, which fits the STRFKR experience. I would also like to note that their openers, Vulgar, who had an interesting take on performative music, also fit the bill. After seeing STRFKR several times, we can only hope that they continue to make music for those who aren't always identified as normal in our society. The misfits, the odd ones, and the misunderstood. Thank you STRFKR for creating a safe place for us to express ourselves.
